She’s been asking me to braid her hair (like Cinderella) before bedtime. Tonight, we finally did it, and she was so happy with the outcome.
What a sweetheart. So much joy, so much gratitude, so much love.

It’s official: Gigi has the best daddy on the planet. This year, she decided she reeeeeally wanted her parents to join in the Halloween fun and dress in costume for the holiday. Her idea? She would be Cinderella, I would be the Fairy Godmother, and Dave would be the prince. Well, his costume arrived this week, and Gigi couldn’t have been more pleased with the result. Dave tried on the costume after dinner, and Gigi coached him and offered positive reinforcement throughout. She’s one lucky girl.
Gigi came home from school on Thursday and told us her “special” class that day was science, with Professor Galapagos, who wears a propeller hat (“the spinner helps her think”). I asked her what she learned and without hesitation, she replied, “We didn’t learn anything. We just played.” And then she followed up with a question: “Can you please get down my science kit?” From there, she and Dave did two new experiments and we have two more planned for the weekend.
She was so proud of having checked out her first ever library book! She couldn’t remember which day she needed to return it — telling me it’s her responsibility to return it on time — but let me know her teachers emailed me with the date (it’s Monday).
She’s very excited. So excited she’s a bit of a handful at dinner.
One of the best parts of the day: choosing books before bedtime. the routine has been the same as long as I can remember— two books, one story, three songs.
We had a really fun Gigi/Mama afternoon and evening. We got pedicures for the first time since before the pandemic. Gigi was so excited to see Miss Angel (the lady who has done my nails for ~10 years) and to also see how much closer to reaching the water her feet would be (they reached the water!).
They say New York City is a playground and that couldn’t be truer for a five-year old Tribeca resident. We went to the park this morning and got to hang with two different families we just adore. And Gigi got to swing, which she LOVES!
Omg this night was SO MUCH FUN!!!!! We made our own pizzas while listening to traditional (Stereotypical? Borderline offensive?) Italian-American music (we literally asked our Google AI to play “pizza-making music” lol) and, of course, Dave and I enjoyed some Italian red wine.
It had been a long week for all of us but we put our stresses and distractions aside and lived in the moment. Who knows what all we talked about. I just know that there were lots of laughs and smiles and so much love.
Girlfriend was about to get a flu shot, but her stresses didn’t stand a chance with Boy George singing.
PS – on second thought, it might’ve had something to do w the fact that I’d just let her order two cake pops: one pre-shot pop and one post-shot pop. Naturally.
My girl WORKS the uniform aesthetic. So happy she’s so into the look. It’s my vibe, too.
Week one of Kindergarten is over! We wrapped it up with a sweet park play date with Gigi’s classmates and their families. Gigi ran around with her buddies, we got to know the families and caregivers, and she ate a million little bitty cupcakes.
We couldn’t be happier with Gigi’s school and all the wonderful people — staff, teachers, students, families — we’ve met to date. We’re still living through a pandemic and, with so much uncertainty in the world, we are super grateful to have so much peace about school.
