American Museum of Natural History

Dave had to go to Ohio to help Mimi, so Gigi and I made a special trip of our own… to the American Museum of Natural History! We hopped on the subway and made our way to the Upper West Side. Gigi loved seeing and learning about the animals (ask her how you can tell the difference between an African elephant and an Indian elephant!), but definitely had questions. Many of the specimens (read: dead animals) in this collection were from the Teddy Roosevelt era.

There was no internet to easily learn about the animals you would find in other parts of the world, and Teddy and his crew had the perfect solution: kill, stuff, and display the animals. Before we went, I (naively) wasn’t sure if Gigi would understand the animals on exhibit were once living… but that question was quickly answered upon our arrival. There was a tiny lion cub in an exhibit, and Gigi asked, “How did the baby die there? That’s unacceptable.” With that, I found the nearest docent, and asked her to help guide me to an age-appropriate answer to Gigi’s question. She explained that what once was considered acceptable would never happen again, and we somehow got to an okay place so that we could continue exploring and learning.

She found it! Her favorite wild cat, a cheetah.
Enjoying her new dinosaur activity book.

Congratulations, Daddy!

We are so proud of Daddy! He was promoted to Managing Director, and we were just thrilled for his hard work and talent to be recognized. We celebrated by treating Daddy to home made pizzas (it IS Friday night!) and cupcakes from Billy’s bakery. We topped it off with a champagne (and water) toast in pretty crystal coupes. Congrats, Dada! We love you so much.

Congrats, G!

Gigi was rewarded a medal for making it halfway through her year of gymnastics class! I was so glad to have been able to make it just in time to see her receive her award. We are so proud of our girl and her hard work. She loves gymnastics so much!

Papa Bob

Papa Bob came to visit, and he got here just in time for a snowstorm! We spent the weekend the way we usually spend our Papa Bob visits, with most of our activities revolving around food and fun. We did make your own pizza night and then Papa and Gigi made ice cream sundaes.

Stealing PB’s glasses
Gigi had a day off of school, so Papa took her to Target and got her a Rapunzel baby doll.
